Hi! We’re Grant & Sara Dotson.
We met in art school while studying graphic design, started dating, fell in love, and got married. Three months later, we photographed our first wedding. While dating, we discovered that we were both passionate about photography, and though we were formally trained as designers, we found that photography was the “niche” we were looking for. Dotson Studios was established in 2006, and we’ve enjoyed doing what we love ever since.
WHY SHOULD THIS MATTER TO YOU?
We remember how we felt when we were in your shoes. Our engagement was exciting but stressful, our wedding was beautiful but fleeting. We’ve found that our own experiences in love and life have changed our vision of what photography for your wedding can and should be, and our background in art and design influences our photographic style to make that vision a reality.
About Grant
Grant grew to love photography in the darkroom during college while studying graphic design. He worked as a designer and art director serving national clients for several years before beginning to pursue his passion for photography.
Since then, he's worked with Sara to develop relationships with their clients which foster great photography in a style that's more timeless than trendy.
When not behind the camera, he's a very proud dad of two. And he's remained connected to the design industry through regular collaboration with Widgets & Stone (the highly regarded design & branding firm), teaching in the Fine Arts department at the University of Tenneessee at Chattanooga, and serving on the board of Chattanooga's chapter of the AIGA (the professional association for design).
About Sara
Sara's painting and design work has often included a human element as a counter to the impersonal, precise tools that the technology offers. So in her photography, she strives to reveal the emotion and energy behind every still photo.
Sara heads our album design, which is a fulfilling passion of hers, and maintains our blog and Facebook page. She has also organized and lead a regular monthly meeting of Chattanooga's professional photographers, sponsored by our lab, Pictage.
Before committing herself to photography full time, she worked as a Brand Specialist in Marketing at Mohawk Industries, where she helped coordinate the photography, design, and marketing teams.
